Introductory Seminar on the National Reading Project at the Faculty of Computers and Information – Ain Shams University to Promote Cultural Awareness and Develop Students Skills

Under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University; Prof. Rami Maher Ghali, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs; and Prof. Rasha Ismail, Dean of the Faculty of Computers and Information; and under the supervision of Prof. Shereen Rady, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development; and coordinated by Dr. Naglaa Fathy, Coordinator of the National Reading Project at the Faculty—

the Faculty hosted, on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, a seminar titled:
Introduction to the National Reading Project.

The seminar was delivered by Prof. Abdel Monem Zaki, Professor at the Faculty of Arts, Ain Shams University, who provided a comprehensive overview of the National Reading Project and its objectives. He discussed its concept, application stages, participation mechanisms and requirements, as well as the criteria for selecting books to be summarized. He also explained the three competition levels based on the number of books, and invited students to register عبر the official website by June 30, 2026.

He further highlighted the awards offered by the project, ranging from EGP 1,000,000 for first place down to EGP 25,000, noting that the seminar witnessed strong engagement from students through their questions and discussions.

During the seminar, emphasis was placed on the importance of culture and reading in shaping the university student’s personality, as culture is considered a fundamental pillar for raising awareness and enhancing critical thinking and analytical skills. Reading also contributes to broadening students’ knowledge horizons and connecting them to contemporary issues at both local and global levels, enabling them to make informed and thoughtful decisions.

The speaker pointed out that engaging in regular reading extends beyond academic achievement to include the development of essential life skills such as communication, problem-solving, and innovation—skills that align closely with the demands of the modern job market.

He also emphasized that the National Reading Project represents a real opportunity to discover and nurture young talents, while encouraging students to adopt reading as an essential part of their daily lives.

The seminar concluded with a call for students to actively participate in this distinguished national initiative and benefit from its opportunities, given its positive impact on personal development and on building a knowledge-based society founded on science and culture.
