Strengthening Academic Partnerships: Egyptian British Workshop on Dual Education and Artificial Intelligence

The Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences at Ain Shams University hosted an Egyptian British workshop on advancing dual university education and strengthening cooperation in artificial intelligence, within the broader framework of enhancing international collaboration in higher education and scientific research.

The faculty hosted the joint workshop of the international project titled “Unlocking the Potential of UK Transnational Higher Education in Egypt through Structuring and Digital Transformation.” The project aims to enhance the quality of higher education programs at the Faculties of Computers and Information and Engineering at Ain Shams University, in collaboration with the University of East London. The project is funded by the British Council as part of its Transnational Education (TNE) programs.

The workshop, held under the title “A Panel Discussion on Egyptian British Cooperation in the Development of International Education and Artificial Intelligence Research,” took place at the faculty’s seminar hall. It was attended by project members, faculty leadership, academic staff, teaching assistants, students, and experts from both the Egyptian and British sides.

The event opened with welcoming remarks delivered by Prof. Rasha Ismail, Dean of the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences at Ain Shams University; Ms. Diane Gloutier, Director of Academic Partnerships and International Collaboration at the University of East London; Mr. Mark Croce, Associate Director of the International Campus at the University of East London; and Mr. David McCrory, Associate Director for International Campus Development at the University of East London.

This was followed by an introductory presentation on the international project delivered by Professor Nagwa Badr, the project’s Principal Investigator, with the participation of Professor Shereen Radi, a member of the project team. The presentation outlined the project’s objectives and expected outcomes, with a particular focus on the digital transformation component aimed at enabling seamless data sharing within work environments and fostering a more integrated ecosystem that enhances quality assurance and digitalization across higher education systems.

In addition, Prof. Mahmoud Khalil, a project team member, delivered a presentation on Centers of Excellence and their role in supporting innovation and scientific research. This was followed by a presentation on the AI Empower Egypt initiative, launched by Dell Technologies under the auspices of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. The initiative was presented by Engineer Hisham Barakat, Principal Technical Advisor to the program, and Ms. Sara Moataz, Strategic Program Manager at Dell Technologies, who highlighted the initiative’s objectives and activities.

The workshop concluded with an open discussion session addressing prospects for advancing international education and strengthening Egyptian British cooperation in artificial intelligence, particularly its applied and research dimensions, in support of Egypt’s vision for digital transformation and knowledge-based innovation. The session was followed by a dedicated networking period aimed at fostering dialogue and exchanging expertise among participants.
